Kids versus super heros as avatars

I have seen the posts going up, to try and fill Facebook with superheroes in recognition of the fight against Child Hood Cancer.

In my life I have met hero’s, real live Super heroes. As a journalists I covered conflict, disasters and events where it took super human commitment to help right wrongs.

But as a Cancer survivor I can say the greatest Heroes I met where in Chemo and Radiation – the tiny children that would be in when I was there.

I was filled with anguish and fear, and these Angels would sit there and be filled with a toxin meant to bring you to the edge of death, in order to kill the Cancer before it killed you, and they would smile, play and bring joy to everything around.

These have been my heroes now for a few years. Before Cancer I would look at children like this and be fearful, now I see these images and brings back memories of the beauty they bring every day. It was my honour to be with them.

This is not to suggest the super hero campaign isn’t good, but if you don’t want a super hero, I would be honored if you found a picture of a Child with Cancer, posted it or used it as your profile picture, and add the words.

“Give – for the Kids”
